 Hip dislocations occur when the femoral head of the thigh dislocates out of the hip socket. Hip dislocations are either anterior or posterior, with posterior hip dislocations comprising the majority of traumatic dislocations.

Treatment for a hip dislocation usually includes positioning the dislocated hip back into its normal position. This is usually performed in an operating room.
