In the ProCare Wrist/Thumb Supports Category, The Brace Shop lists the dozen or so wrist braces that have a thumb attachment to it. Many of these wrist/thumb or thumb splints are used for patients suffering from De Quervain's tendonitis.
De Quervain's tendonitis occurs when the tendons (2) around the base of the thumb are swollen, causing pain and tenderness along the thumb side of the wrist. This very common condition is caused by repetitive strain of the thumb, such as in typing on a keyboard, bowling and knitting.
Treatment involves rest, splinting the thumb with a wrist/thumb support, and anti-inflammatory medication. The condition usually resolves itself after a period of rest. The Brace Shop and ProCare have the right thumb support for this very common and painful condition.
